Donald Trump has praised the 2026 FIFA World Cup as “one of the greatest events ever held” after Spain defeated Argentina in the final.
Speaking the day after the match, Trump claimed the tournament was several times bigger than previous World Cups and said Spain had dominated despite the final remaining close.
He also congratulated FIFA president Gianni Infantino and praised the event’s impact on the United States.
His comments came after a controversial trophy presentation in which he remained on stage alongside Spain’s players as they lifted the World Cup, drawing attention during the team’s celebrations.
