Is Anthropic Losing Goodwill With AI Researchers?; AGI House Alums Raise $25 Million For New Fund
Remember the last time Anthropic tussled with the Trump administration, all the way back in February, when a coterie of competing AI researchers and CEOs (even Sam Altman!) quickly https://www.theinformation.com/articles/military-worries-simmer-openai-google-anthropic-hits-stalemate-pentagon">came to Anthropic’s defense?
That doesn’t seem to be happening this time.
In the wake of Trump officials’ Friday night move to effectively ban Anthropic’s most advanced models over alleged cybersecurity fears—https://www.theinformation.com/articles/amazons-jassy-raised-concerns-anthropic-model-trump-crackdown">precipitated in part by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, no less—there’s been nary a peep from Anthropic’s rivals about one of the most remarkable situations we’ve seen in years (and that’s saying something).
Indeed, a number of employees from OpenAI and other rival AI labs say they have less sympathy for Anthropic this time.
They argued that because Anthropic had been talking up the capabilities and dangers of its Claude Mythos model and asking for more aggressive federal regulation, the company shouldn’t have been surprised when the government reacted so strongly to security concerns around the new models.
In a https://darioamodei.com/post/policy-on-the-ai-exponential">post he published just last week, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei actually compared the speed of AI policy to the slow-moving Treebeard in The Lord of the Rings.
