US President Donald Trump is reaching for a tariff power that has sat unused since Congress created it during the Great Depression.
After the Supreme Court invalidated his use of an emergency powers law to advance his second-term trade agenda, Trump is turning to Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930 to threaten 50% duties on certain imports from Canada.
He said the move is in response to what he describes as Canada’s unfair treatment of dairy, alcohol, and cars from the US.
