A woman in her 50s has been seriously injured following a stabbing inside Holy Cross Church in Tramore, Co Waterford.
The shocking incident happened shortly before 10am as parishioners gathered for morning prayers.
Emergency services rushed to the church before the injured woman was taken to University Hospital Waterford, where her injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening.
A man in his 30s was arrested at a nearby residence and remains in Garda custody.
Gardaí also seized a knife for technical examination as investigations into the Tramore church stabbing continue.
