Alexander Stubb joined Volodymyr Zelensky in a last-minute appeal to US senators before the Senate voted by a wide margin to advance legislation that would impose new sanctions on Russia and Iran.

The Senate backed the procedural motion by 86 votes to 12 on Tuesday, hours after lawmakers attended the funeral of late Senator Lindsey Graham, whose final major legislative effort was the sanctions package.
