Ireland is to provide an additional €125 million in support for Ukraine following Taoiseach Micheál Martin’s meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.
During their joint press conference, the Taoiseach faced questions over concerns that alumina produced in Ireland could be exported to Russia.
Martin said Ireland does not want material from the Aughinish plant reaching Russia and confirmed the Government’s investigation would be shared with the European Commission.
Zelensky backed further action to ensure materials do not support Russian weapons production or help fund the war.
The leaders also discussed sanctions, peace negotiations, Ireland’s EU presidency and efforts to advance Ukraine’s membership of the European Union.
