Rahul Gandhi released as India’s youth protests gather pace

Police released Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi late on Tuesday after detaining him during a sit-in outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in New Delhi, as youth-led protests over exam failures and police conduct entered a third day.


Officers carried Gandhi through a crowd and placed him on a bus after he joined Congress lawmakers demanding action over the treatment of student protesters.
