The body of a 15-year-old boy was recovered from Pistakee Lake Monday evening hours after he went missing in north suburban Fox Lake, authorities said.

The Lake County Marine Unit and multiple fire agencies were dispatched to the lake sometime after 6 p.m. after the boy "either jumped off a boat to swim or fell in the water," the Lake County Sheriff's Office said.

When the teen didn’t resurface, his friends jumped into the lake to try and find him but were unsuccessful, the sheriff's office said.

Over two hours later, divers and an underwater drone were able to find him, officials said.

He was not wearing a flotation device.

The teen hasn’t yet been identified and an autopsy was being scheduled.
