Seoul shares open higher on tech gains

Seoul shares opened higher Thursday as investors scooped up bargain-priced chip stocks following the previous session's steep sell-off.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index rose 285.92 points, or 3.95 percent, to 7,532.71 as of 9:15 a.m. Overnight, US stocks ended mixed.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.09 percent, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite rose 0.2 percent.
