Japanese lawyer Hitomi Sugiura has warned that Japan's growing military spending reflects a broader shift in national policy, one she says could weaken the country's postwar commitment to peace.
Her remarks came as Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi pushes to accelerate revisions to Japan's three key security documents by the end of the year.
Sugiura said Article 9 of Japan's Constitution, a key outcome of the country's postwar reflection on its wartime history, should be upheld to prevent Japan from moving further away from its pacifist principles. #worldnow
