Parker, an 11-year-old boy with autism, went missing from his home in the Calgary community of Thornecliff on July 16, but an Amber Alert wasn’t issued until two days later.
As the search entered its sixth day Tuesday, more than 300 police officers could be seen scanning the area on foot, horseback, in vehicles and through the air.
While social media has been incredibly helpful in gathering volunteers to search for the missing boy, it’s also led to issues including artificial intelligence (AI) generated content and posts containing misinformation.
AI content can “divert resources from a legitimate search path,” Calgary Police Acting S. Sgt Scott Gutterson said, warning the public that “if it seems too ridiculous to be true, it probably is.”
As Global's Skylar Peters reports, Calgary police are now asking anyone in the Thorncliffe area to share any CCTV footage they have, as it could be helpful in their search.
