Besides AI's accessibility and affordability, many are excited about artificial general intelligence, or AGI. It's a hypothetical AI that can match or exceed human cognitive abilities across almost all tasks, learning and adapting without needing task-specific programming.
Prof. Song-Chun Zhu, chair professor of Peking University's Institute for General Artificial Intelligence, has been working on AI research over the past three decades in the US and, now, in China.
He firmly dismissed the Scaling Law, which says bigger, more powerful large language models are the path to AGI. Instead, he is now, with his team, experimenting with a cognitive architecture demonstrated by a virtual child called Tong Tong, which is learning continuously through interaction instead of static pretraining.
He is excited to share Tong Tong's latest improvement with CGTN's Tian Wei in an interview earlier this week.
