Attacks in the nearby Red Sea caused oil prices to jump above $100." width="620" />

It's the first time oil has risen above that benchmark of $100 since late May.

Stocks sank under the pressure of rising oil prices, while companies with big fuel bills fell on worries about higher expenses.
