A woman remains in intensive care after she was allegedly stabbed while kneeling and saying the Rosary inside Holy Cross Church in Tramore, Co Waterford.

Witnesses described scenes of panic as Mary McNamara reportedly attempted to flee through the church before collapsing outside.

Emergency services rushed her to University Hospital Waterford, where she continues to receive treatment for serious injuries.

A man in his 30s has been charged in connection with the incident and is due to appear before Waterford District Court.

Gardaí are continuing their investigation into the alleged Tramore church stabbing.
