Burnham praises Starmer in first Commons appearance since return | The Cathy Newman Show

Sky News Sky News — 51min

Sir Keir Starmer and Andy Burnham have welcomed the Commons passing the Public Office (Accountability) Bill, known as the Hillsborough Law.

The legislation would place a duty on public bodies and officials to tell the truth and proactively co-operate with investigations and inquiries.

Speaking in the Commons, Burnham described the law as "a rewiring of the state" and praised the prime minister for his commitment to the families of the 97 people unlawfully killed in the 1989 Hillsborough disaster.

Starmer called the vote "a moment of real significance for our country" as MPs gave the bill their formal approval before it moves to the House of Lords.

Cathy Newman is joined by Lord Michael Gove and Baroness Ayesha Hazarika to discuss the day's politics.

Plus, retired US Army Lieutenant General Ben Hodges says flattering Donald Trump "never works" for America's allies.
