Insurgent alliance strikes at heart of Mali’s junta, exposing limits of Russian protection
Mali’s ruling junta was reeling on Monday after coordinated attacks by separatists and al Qaeda-linked jihadists sparked two days of fierce fighting across the country.
It was the most serious challenge to Mali's central government since a 2012 rebel offensive was pushed back by the intervention of French forces.
