US-Canada tariff deadline looms
President Trump paused the planned 50% tariffs on Canadian goods for three days, citing a tentative trade deal reached with Prime Minister Mark Carney.
The reprieve covers roughly $20 billion in Canadian imports targeting autos, alcohol, and dairy sectors.
Negotiators from both countries said they were confident of finalizing a deal before the new Saturday deadline.
The deal would cut tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum to 25% and reduce auto tariffs to 15%.
