Starmer Nationalises British Steel

Starmer argued that the government was stepping in to prevent the collapse of a strategic industry after private owners failed to secure a viable future.

Unions broadly welcomed the decision, but business groups warned it could deter investment.

The deal will see taxpayers assume control of the company’s assets and liabilities.

The new state-owned entity is expected to continue operations while a long-term plan is formed.
