Tourist plane crashes near Peru’s Nazca Lines

On August 2, a Cessna 208B Grand Caravan en route to view the ancient Nazca geoglyphs in southern Peru went down in a remote field, killing all 13 occupants – eleven foreign tourists and two crew members.

Local authorities said the plane disappeared from radar shortly before the crash and that weather conditions were clear.

The tragedy has reignited calls for stricter regulations on sightseeing flights that operate at low altitude over fragile archaeological sites.

Peru’s aviation regulator announced an investigation and promised tighter oversight of charter operators.
