Maseko Strike Sends South Africa to First World Cup Knockouts

South Africa celebrated a first World Cup knockout berth with jubilant scenes after Thapelo Maseko’s second-half strike secured a 1-0 victory over South Korea.

Maseko fired into the bottom corner in the 63rd minute following a precise pass into the center of the area.

The result was an astonishing turnaround after South Africa’s disastrous 4-1 loss to hosts Mexico to open the tournament.

South Korea can still qualify as one of the eight best third-placed teams, but their fate is out of their hands as they await final results from the other groups.
