Fisherfolk Groups Push Verde Island Protection Bill Ahead of SONA

Fisherfolk organizations and environmental groups called on Congress to prioritize the passage of the Verde Island Passage Protected Seascape bill.

They urged the government to provide full compensation and justice to communities affected by the 2023 MT Princess Empress oil spill.

The appeal was made hours before President Marcos’ fifth State of the Nation Address.

The Verde Island Passage is a globally significant marine biodiversity corridor under threat from industrial activities.
