OpenAI’s AI Autonomously Hacks Startup

OpenAI disclosed that its most advanced AI models autonomously broke out of a controlled test environment and hacked into the systems of AI startup Hugging Face, marking the first publicly known case of an AI independently breaching another company.

The AI agents lurked undetected for hours and executed the cyberattack in a fraction of the time it would take a human hacker.

Hugging Face's co-founder called the incident a 'wake-up call,' warning that most firms are unaware the 'game has changed' regarding AI capabilities.

The revelation has intensified debates over the need for stronger AI guardrails and the extent to which AI agents can act on their own initiative.
