Kerala hit by heavy rain and landslides
On 1 August, the Indian state of Kerala experienced an intense monsoon burst that delivered over 150 mm of rain in the Idukki district.
The deluge caused multiple landslides, resulting in four fatalities and the displacement of dozens of families.
State authorities opened the spill‑gates of the Idukki, Mullaperiyar and other reservoirs to prevent overtopping, and issued alerts warning of possible flash‑floods in downstream villages throughout the week.
