Tarrant loses conviction appeal

New Zealand's Court of Appeal has rejected a bid by convicted Christchurch mosque shooter Brenton Tarrant to overturn his convictions.

The court ruled that Tarrant's attempt to withdraw his guilty pleas was "utterly devoid of merit." Tarrant, who is serving a life sentence without parole for the 2019 attacks, had claimed his admissions were made under duress.

The decision effectively brings an end to the legal appeal process for the country's deadliest mass shooting.
