France Legalises Assisted Dying for Adults

The French National Assembly voted to approve a bill that creates a legal right to assisted dying for adults suffering from incurable and life-threatening conditions.

The legislation, which passed by a narrow margin after months of intense debate, permits patients to request lethal medication under strict medical supervision.

Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said he would refer three points of the law to the Constitutional Council for review.

The move makes France one of a growing number of European countries to legalise assisted dying.
