Poland's Ruling Party Splits Ahead of 2027 Election

More than 30 MPs left Poland's Law and Justice (PiS) party following a power struggle between party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski and former PM Mateusz Morawiecki.

The split threatens the conservative camp's ability to challenge the government of Donald Tusk.

The rupture is the biggest on the Polish right in many years and could sharply reduce PiS's chances of returning to power in next year's parliamentary election.

Analysts say the party's internal divisions reflect deeper ideological and personal rivalries.
