Southampton Coach Charged Over Spygate

Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert has been charged by the Football Association with misconduct for his role in the ‘Spygate’ scandal that saw the club expelled from the Championship play-off final.

The 33-year-old German faces a potential one-year ban after being accused of authorising the observation of training sessions of Oxford United, Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough ahead of their matches against Southampton.

The FA alleges he brought the game into disrepute.

The scandal has rocked English football and denied Southampton a chance at promotion to the Premier League.
