Cyclospora Outbreak Hits Record High, RFK Jr. Says Under Control
The FDA's investigation into the cyclospora outbreak continues to focus on shredded iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms in Mexico, after a previous positive sample was deemed a false positive.
Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. declared the outbreak under control, denying that cutbacks to food safety monitoring had any impact.
Confirmed cases in the United States have hit a record high, surpassing the previous peak of 4,703 infections recorded in 2019.
The outbreak has fuelled debate over food safety regulation and the capacity of public health agencies to respond to widespread foodborne illness.
