Bangladesh President Shahabuddin to Resign

Shahabuddin, 76, had held the largely ceremonial post since April 2023 and was a close ally of Hasina, who fled to India after mass protests.

His resignation halfway through his term leaves Hasina with no allies in high office and adds to the political instability following the ouster of the former premier.

The president's office confirmed the decision on Friday.

Meanwhile, the interim government faces challenges in restoring order.
