Hamas Elects Khalil al-Hayya as Political Leader

Al-Hayya was elected as the head of Hamas’s political bureau, placing one of the movement’s most experienced negotiators at the helm.

He succeeds Yahya Sinwar, who was killed in Gaza earlier.

Iran’s foreign minister congratulated him, highlighting the close ties between Tehran and Hamas.

The appointment comes as the Gaza war persists and the Middle East remains on edge.
