Mexican governor drug indictment

The U.S. Justice Department has indicted Rubén Rocha Moya, the governor of the Mexican state of Sinaloa, on large-scale drug trafficking charges.

Rocha is accused of conspiring with the Sinaloa Cartel to import fentanyl and cocaine into the U.S. The indictment marks a significant escalation in U.S. anti-cartel operations and places President Claudia Sheinbaum in a difficult diplomatic position.

If convicted, Rocha could face life in prison for his alleged role in protecting narcotics networks in exchange for bribes.
