British American Tobacco Cuts 9,000 Jobs in AI Overhaul

British American Tobacco (BAT) unveiled a sweeping restructuring plan that will eliminate 5,500 positions worldwide and transfer an additional 3,500 jobs to external partners.

The maker of major cigarette brands including Dunhill and Lucky Strike is targeting £600 million in annual savings through the AI-powered transformation programme.

The cuts come as the tobacco giant grapples with shrinking demand for traditional combustibles and pivots resources toward next-generation products.

The overhaul marks one of the largest corporate restructurings in the consumer goods sector this year.
