Eddie Howe Resigns as Newcastle Manager

Eddie Howe stepped down as head coach of Newcastle United after nearly five years in charge, saying he needed to 'recharge and take a break' following a turbulent end to his tenure.

The club accepted his decision and five coaches also left, with German manager Matthias Jaissle installed as favourite to take over.

Captain Bruno Guimaraes paid an emotional tribute, calling Howe the 'king of this club', while also hinting he might soon follow him out the door.

Arsenal moved to capitalise on the upheaval, advancing talks on an £85 million transfer for Guimaraes.
