$87.6B White House Request for Iran War

$87.6B White House Request for Iran War

President Trump formally asked Congress for $87.6 billion in additional spending on Wednesday, with the vast majority of the funds intended to replenish weapons stocks and cover operational costs from the U.S. war with Iran.

The request also includes funds for agricultural disaster relief and the ongoing Ebola outbreak response.

The massive price tag arrives at a moment of growing bipartisan unease about the conflict and comes as the Pentagon hopes to avoid cuts to long-term modernization programs.

The supplemental request must now navigate a skeptical Congress.
