Sikkim Tunnel Collapse Kills 11, Traps 14

The death toll from a hydropower tunnel collapse in India’s Sikkim state rose to at least 11, with 14 workers still trapped after a suspected gas explosion on Monday.

Rescuers battled hazardous conditions and a suspected gas leak, while officials said survival chances were slim.

A geologist from Kottayam, Kerala, was among those feared trapped.

The tunnel was under construction at a hydropower project in the northeastern Himalayan state.
