US indicts Mexican Governor
The U.S. Department of Justice has unsealed a major indictment charging Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha Moya and nine other Mexican officials with drug trafficking and weapons offenses.
The charges allege that the officials provided protection and support to the Sinaloa Cartel in exchange for substantial bribes.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has responded with caution, stating that her government will only consider extradition requests if the U.S. provides 'irrefutable evidence' of the alleged crimes.
The indictment has created a significant diplomatic rift between the two neighbors, with Sheinbaum accusing Washington of 'meddling' in Mexico's internal political affairs.
