Record rain kills five in Japan
Eastern Japan was hit by unprecedented rainfall, with over 360mm falling in 24 hours, causing widespread flooding and landslides that killed at least eight people.
Narita airport was cut off, stranding about 7,000 travelers who spent the night in terminals as rail lines were flooded and roads blocked.
The flooding also knocked out power to thousands of homes in Chiba prefecture.
The Japan Meteorological Agency described the rains as 'extremely unusual' and warned of continued risks from saturated ground.
