Burnham Caps Bus Fares at £2
New Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced that single bus fares across England will be capped at £2 from January 2027, reversing the £3 cap imposed by his predecessor.
The policy is part of a broader cost-of-living package that also includes a VAT cut on energy bills.
Burnham acknowledged that the funding details were still being finalized, drawing criticism from opposition leader Kemi Badenoch, who urged him to rule out tax rises to pay for what she called a "spending spree." The announcement came as Burnham prepared for his first visits to Scotland and Wales as prime minister, where he will attend the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony.
