Saudi Football Chief Quits After World Cup Exit

Yasser Al-Misehal stepped down as president of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation on Sunday, taking responsibility for the team’s group-stage exit from the 2026 World Cup.

Saudi Arabia had entered the tournament with high expectations after heavy investment in the domestic league and national team programme.

The early elimination was a setback for the kingdom’s Vision 2030 sporting ambitions.

Al-Misehal’s resignation is the latest in a series of coaching and leadership changes among teams that underperformed at the expanded 48-team tournament.
