White House gunman identified

Law enforcement officials have identified 21-year-old Nasire Best of Maryland as the gunman killed by Secret Service agents at a White House security checkpoint.

Best reportedly opened fire toward the checkpoint on Saturday evening, leading officers to return fire in an incident that also left a bystander injured.

Investigation into the suspect's background revealed a history of mental health issues and a prior attempt to enter the White House grounds last year.

Tourists returned to the area on Sunday as security remained high following the fatal confrontation.
