EU Fines AliExpress €550 Million Over Illegal Products
The European Union imposed a €550 million fine on AliExpress, the Chinese e-commerce platform, for violating the Digital Services Act by allowing the sale of counterfeit and dangerous goods.
Alibaba, the parent company, said it would appeal the penalty, which is one of the largest of its kind.
The fine reflects the EU's increasingly aggressive enforcement of its digital regulations against major online platforms, particularly those based outside the bloc.
The penalty comes as the EU continues to tighten oversight of e-commerce marketplaces to protect consumers from illegal and unsafe products.
