EU Orders Google to Open Android to AI Rivals
The EU’s latest directive requires Google to allow users to choose alternative AI chatbots as their default assistant on Android devices and to provide competitors with search data.
The order is part of a broader campaign under the Digital Markets Act to loosen the grip of major U.S. technology companies on digital markets.
Google said the forced sharing of sensitive data could expose users to privacy risks and weaken security protections.
The decision marks another escalation in the transatlantic regulatory battle over artificial intelligence and platform dominance.
