Cuban Dissident Artist Freed and Arrives in US

Prominent Cuban dissident artist and musician Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara was released after five years in prison and has arrived in exile in the United States.

Otero Alcántara was arrested in 2021 during Cuba's largest anti-government protests in decades and was released on the condition that he leave the country.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed his exile and urged Cuba to free over 700 political prisoners.

The US ambassador to Mexico welcomed the artist's arrival as a significant moment for human rights.
