Alibaba launches Qwen 3.8‑Max AI model

Chinese e‑commerce giant Alibaba unveiled Qwen 3.8‑Max, a 2.4‑trillion‑parameter large language model designed for long‑horizon reasoning tasks.

In internal benchmarks the model matched or exceeded the performance of Anthropic’s Fable on a range of reasoning and coding tests.

Alibaba said the model’s weights would be released under an open‑source license within a week, inviting developers to fine‑tune it for specialised applications.

The launch signals Alibaba’s ambition to compete with OpenAI, Google and Microsoft in the rapidly expanding generative‑AI market.
