French Woman Freed After 12-Year Captivity in Pakistan

Pakistani authorities raided a residence in the country's northwest and freed a 54-year-old French citizen, identified as Sylvie Yasmina, and her five children who had been allegedly imprisoned by her husband since 2014.

The woman told police that she endured years of physical abuse and was effectively locked inside the house, with one child's escape finally triggering the rescue operation.

The husband has been taken into custody while an investigation continues.

The case has drawn international attention to issues of forced confinement and transnational domestic abuse.
