Afghanistan Flash Floods Kill 20, Over 100 Missing

Heavy rainfall triggered flash floods that swept through Nuristan province in eastern Afghanistan, killing at least 20 people and leaving over 100 missing, according to the Taliban’s National Disaster Management Authority.

The provincial capital Parun was hardest hit, with rescue crews struggling to reach survivors buried under mud and boulders.

At least 80 people were injured, and officials warned the death toll could rise as search operations continued.

The disaster highlighted Afghanistan’s vulnerability to climate-induced extreme weather, with scientists noting that climate change has increased the frequency of such floods.
