US‑Japan intervene to prop up yen

In a rare joint action, the United States and Japan announced a coordinated intervention in the foreign‑exchange market to bolster the Japanese yen against a weakening dollar.

The move, backed by President Donald Trump and Japan’s finance minister, sent the dollar‑yen rate tumbling and signalled a new level of cooperation between the two allies.

Analysts warned that such coordination could become a template for future currency disputes.
