U.S. imposes 100 % tariffs on India for Russian oil purchases

The U.S. House of Representatives approved a sweeping tariff bill that imposes a 100 % duty on imports from India, Brazil, Saudi Arabia and Turkey that are linked to the purchase of Russian oil.

Lawmakers argue the measure is intended to cut off revenue streams that fund Moscow’s war effort, but critics warn it could destabilise global energy markets and hurt allied economies that rely on Indian oil imports.

The legislation now moves to the Senate for final approval.
