Australia Presses Laos Over Methanol Deaths

Australia summoned Laos' ambassador and called for serious charges over the deaths of two Australian teenagers who drank methanol-contaminated alcohol, saying it was 'deeply frustrated' with the response.

Media reports indicated Laos will press charges carrying a maximum penalty of just one year in jail against those allegedly responsible.

The families of Bianca Jones and Holly Morton-Bowles said they were devastated by what they called 'unacceptable' charges.

The case has strained diplomatic relations between the two countries as Australia demands greater accountability.
