Washington state wildfires force evacuations

A massive wildfire complex in the Spokane area, dubbed the Old Trails fire, leapt the Columbia River and raced into urban neighborhoods.

Over 30 000 residents were ordered to evacuate, and power outages affected several counties.

Governor Jay Inslee declared a state of emergency, unlocking additional firefighting resources and federal aid.
